I teach history at a public elementary school. My students are nine -year-old kids who come from different ethnic backgrounds and religions. I love my job because I love to educate children about the most important events that have shaped the history of our civilization. There is another subject besides history which I am also passionate about and that is nutrition. My mother was a chef at one of the cities most luxurious health spas and she taught me to eat healthy, nutritious foods. I try to bring up nutrition diet as much as I can during history class however it is not always easy because they are such different subjects. I believe it is very important to teach young kids about the benefits of maintaining a healthy nutrition diet throughout their lives and to teach them basic cooking techniques and healthy recipes.

I am trying to start a cooking and nutrition diet course at school however the principal tells me that he doesn’t have the necessary budget to do so. I want every kid to have the same chance that I did to eat healthy, nutritious foods and to learn how to cook their own meals. I was very lucky that my mother always made time to teach me healthy eating habits because as a result of such habits I have never suffered from diseases such as high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes or obesity. I encourage every one of my students to try eating nutrition diets such as fresh fruit salads, grilled vegetable sandwiches, and frozen yogurt during their lunch breaks. Proper food nutrition will give kids a better quality of life as it helps them grow up healthier and happier.
